Brave New World
1. If you had to choose between happiness or truth, which would you choose? Discuss.
2. How accurate is Huxley's vision of the future (remember Brave New World was first published in 1932)? Think about America as you know it today.
3. What about the novel do you find the most disturbing so far? Discuss.

  1. I would most definitely choose the truth. Happiness isn't great if you have no sadness to compare it too. Also I would rather be unhappy than ignorant to the world around me. Without truth life isn't really like life.

  2. I would pick truth because it would be horrible t be living a lie. It would be like smelling like poop and nobody telling you and treating you normal. I would feel horrible. I feel that i would find happiness in the truth.

  3. For being written so early Huxley predicted some things very accurately and i can see from reading how we could have the technology to create a society like the dystopia in the novel. All emotion is stripped from majority of the humans.

  4. Huxley is pretty much a genius when it comes to his vision of the future. Obviously we're not as disturbed and robotic but his portrayal of technology is remarkable. He talks pretty accurately about things that haven't even been invented yet. He's a supergenius.

  5. The most disturbing part of the novel is how open and free sex is. Sex is to be had with anyone and everyone and it is the duty of everyone to do everyone. Life is just one massive orgy to them. Intercourse isnt anything to them.

  6. I don't think he got the society aspect of the future right though. Humans have changed because each generation changes, but we haven't become crazy immoral robots. We've made positive steps in equalizing society.

  7. The most disturbing part is definitely with the babies. I can't imagine people treating babies like dogs and shocking them. It's a disgusting thought that Huxley viewed human's that would do that. If there is one thing that hasn't changed in mankind it is our love and instinctive nurturing of babies.

  8. I also find how people are treated like animals and altered during the embryotic stages of life. It is inhumane how they engineer our own race and use predistination. Part of the excitement of life is being scared about not knowing what you are destined for. The lives of the humans in the novel are miserable because life provides no excitement or confusion.
