Frankenstein
1. Discuss how the episolary style (letters) of the novel affect your understanding/enjoyment of it.
2. Discuss the following quotes:
a. " None but those who have experienced them can conceive of the enticements of science. In other studies you go as far as others have gone before you, and there is nothing more to know; but in a scientific pursuit there is continual food for discovery and wonder."
b. "I am malicious because I am miserable. Am I not shunned and hated by all mankind?"
Not topic related* I have really enjoyed reading Frankenstein so far, its not as hard as I had expected it to be but is still time consuming. For a while I was thinking that Frankenstein's monster was just misunderstood and he just needed a friend. Then he had to screw that whole thing up with he rips Elizabethers beating heart out her chest...way to go monster.
ReplyDeleteOnce again not topic related* I am shocked that Frankenstein was able to chop his own wife's off with a cleaver and sew it onto his childhood friend's body. He must have some serious will power, or some powerful guilt; I'm sot sure which one it is though. If he were around today, or around ever as he is a fictional character. I'd give him a nig ol' high five.
ReplyDeleteQuote (a) is a big part of the novel. The whole novel's moral is learning how far is too far. Frankenstein went way too far when he brought the creature to life. Victor had no idea what was going to happen when he created the creature. That was really stupid of him not to considerate because now the thing is wreaking havoc and it is his fault. This teaches the moral of all actions have consequences.
ReplyDeleteI have never read a book in this style so it is different for me but its alirght. Makes it seem more real even though i dont think he wrote all of this in letters.......that is a lot of writing.
ReplyDeletequote a is very true. but it seems kind of broad because there is a science for everything. The only thing i cant think of a science for is literature but literature is full of endless ideas so literature is also enticing.
ReplyDeletequote b seems like somone who isnt very motivated. Even if everyone hated you you could find a way to be nice and makle them not hate you. Need to see the glass of milk as half full not half empty...sheesh....party defecator...
ReplyDeleteI think the people from the society around frankenstein are stupid. Dont they realize how strong he is? If i came from the book i would harness his man power to pull my plow when i was tilling the fields......this way slavery would have never come to african americans...it would come to people who were made from dead people.......genius genius genius
ReplyDeleteI really like quote (a) because it high-lights the morals Frankenstein shows. Humans really need to think before they act and understand how far is too far. I think bringing people back from the dead is a horrible idea. People die for a reason and they need to stay dead. It may sound heartless but I really do believe everything happens for a reason.
ReplyDeleteQuote (b) makes me really sad because I feel bad for the monster. It's not his fault he was created ugly, abandoned, and frightful. All he ever tried to do was help people, and he was hated and outcast as a result. If people ran at the sight of me when I was trying to do good, I would be pretty malicious too.
ReplyDeleteOverall I really liked Frankenstein. It was really sad, not only because of all the death, but also how the creature was treated. It's also sad he never got a name. I also liked it because it taught a lot of morals. Humankind is too judgmental of looks, think before you act, and don't go too far were the big ones.
