Frankenstein

1. Discuss how the episolary style (letters) of the novel affect your understanding/enjoyment of it.

2. Discuss the following quotes:

a. " None but those who have experienced them can conceive of the enticements of science. In other studies you go as far as others have gone before you, and there is nothing more to know; but in a scientific pursuit there is continual food for discovery and wonder."

b. "I am malicious because I am miserable. Am I not shunned and hated by all mankind?"

  1. I just want to start by saying I completely side with Grackshenah and I would be his friend.

  2. I really enjoy the episolary style. For me the letters make it really fast to read and helps break up the monotony of long chapters. It also helps me understand it because usually they are shorter than chapters

  3. I like the letters but my favorite parts were when the monster was talking. Victor was kinda blah...

  4. I agree Dea I liked the monster's side of the story as well as it made the story more fun, this is our last blog so we need to make this awesome!

  6. I <3 the episolatory style of writing. Every single book should be written in this style. Although it is a unique style that I have frankly never experienced before, I was still able to understand the novel as though it were written conventionally.

  7. I enjoyed the letters because they add a personal touch to the story and help the reader understand the events. However, it does limit the point of view and I have a hard time believing the sentiments.

  8. I totally agree Kyla. The epistlatory makes it more interesting by giving the reader insight into a character's style of expressing themselves or their mind.

  9. I am incapable of understanding the enticements of science. I have never enjoyed science. I, however, still understand the quote. A scientific pursuit by an interested individual is an adventure. I get that. Sure!

  10. I wanted to hear more from Frankenstein. I wish he wrote letters to Victor, like threats.

  12. If I was a part of this story, I would be fearful and hateful of the monster as well. I sympathize a little bit with the monster because he is hated before being judged fairly.
However, he is hideous, grotesque, and disgusting.

  13. I agree with the first quote because I feel the same about science. I like how there is always more to science and new pursuits to be chosen on a variety of fields.

    1. As for the second quote I wish I could say I'd give the monster the benefit of the doubt. However, he had a very motley and hideous appearance and in that time that was a thing to be feared.

  14. Holden you are so harsh!
I side with the monster, he has a kind heart, hardened by society. I would befriend him, he was never evil. He tried to help people. I think this serves as a good point not to judge people. We need to be more open to others who are different.

  16. KELLY I so agree- science is exciting, especially when you can make something out of nothing! I understand why Victor created the monster. I just don't get why he ran away. What a wimp.

    1. i think he ran away because of how ungly that monster was. He should have just found a better looking dead guy.

    2. Yes but what I don't understand is that the monster, while laying on the table, before he was brought to life looked the exact same. Why wasn't he horrified before?

  17. Victor was horrified by his creation. He realized that he did something terrible. He was a wimp though for fleeing

  19. Thanks Dea. Although I have a passion for science I do not think I would go as far as Victor did, instead I would perform rational experimens and not try to sew together parts and animate them.
